Issue: Web browser freezes when online after loading Fax STF
Solution: Reselect modem or disable Fax STF extensions
Details:
I have a Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White) computer with an Apple
V.90 internal modem. After installing FaxSTF 5.0.5, I seem to be
experiencing intermittent crashes when browsing the web after a
few minutes of use, apparently at random. I tried both Netscape
Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Also, I notice a
delay of several seconds before my modem attempts to dial my
internet service provider. How can I use FaxSTF and avoid
these issues?
Apple recommends standard troubleshooting methods first. This
includes, but is not limited, to:
- Running Disk First Aid.
- Reinstalling the Web browser or Internet access software
from the Power Macintosh G3 CD-ROM disc.
- Verifying functionality with a different browser, FTP client
software, or other TCP-based application.
- Uninstalling and then reinstalling FAXstf.
- Disabling non-Apple extensions by setting the Extensions
Manager control panel to Mac OS All, and restarting.
If the latter suggestion seems to resolve the issue, verify that
"Power Mac G3 Internal 56K" is selected as the Fax Modem, in the
FAXstf preferences. To verify this, open the Fax Browser (found
in the FAXstf 5 folder), and click the "Change Preferences and
Fax Settings" button. Do not choose 'Apple/GV 56K.'
